Expandable Synth magic – now at the tip of your foot.
The Source Audio C4 Synth packs everything you ask for in Eurorack modular synthesizers into a compact stompbox with a simple design. By itself, it features six dynamic synth effects from vintage to modern with unparalleled tracking capabilities. But C4 welcomes more than what it carries right out of the box – you can access an extensive library of presets via the Neuro Desktop Editor or Neuro Mobile App.
At first glance, you’ll see that C4 features a simple 4-knob control layout (two are dual purpose): Input Level/Envelope Sensitivity, Wet vs. Dry Mix/Master Output Level, and two separate Control knobs that adjust parameters depending on the preset.
The C4 also boasts powerful, 56-bit signal processing, anondized aluminum housing, stereo inputs and outputs, and a mini USB port that enables MIDI from your DAW (digital audio workstation) software, as well as external MIDI controllers with USB host support. It can also receive MIDI CC messages via the Source Audio Neuro Hub (sold separately.)
Let’s dive deeper into C4’s abilities when using the Neuro Desktop Editor or Neuro Mobile App. They offer an extensive set of sculpting tools, including four assignable voices, three oscillator wave shapes (sine, square, saw), 10+ envelope followers, 20+ modulating filters, distortion, tremolo, pitch shifting, intelligent harmonization, FM synthesis, two programmable sequencers and more. Once you dial in what you love, players can either burn the preset directly to any of C4’s 6 toggle positions (and 128 MIDI accessible positions), or publish the preset to the Neuro community for other C4 users to access.
“Synth pedals need lots of different sounds, because personal taste is everything in this space. “Most synth pedals have a relatively narrow range of sounds – that is not enough. The C4 has over 120 presets today, and we estimate it will grow to 1000 a month from now. Our innovation with this pedal is not just flexible sound creation tools – more importantly, it is the simple means by which any user can browse and play the library of sounds, burn a handful of favorites directly to the pedal, and then bring them to their next gig in a small, simple to use package. No other synth pedal in history offers this.” – Roger Smith, President of Source Audio
In the process of developing the C4, Source Audio decided to test its appeal to the market by releasing 50 limited-edition, hand-painted versions. The units sold out in minutes with nearly no promotion, so it was a sign to the team at Source Audio that C4 would be a raging success in the effects community once it was officially in production. After the limited release, the collection of user presets began to grow exponentially.
“We wanted to get the C4 in the hands of some highly motivated users. We knew this especially engaged group would give us some excellent feedback and create a swath of awesome presets for the official release.” – Roger Smith
